Stop losing punch-list items in group texts
Hey —
If your punch list lives in a group text, a legal pad and three people's camera rolls, something's getting missed before final walkthrough.
Tool of the week: Fieldwire (by Hilti)
Fieldwire is a field task app for your phone or tablet. Walk the job, drop a pin right on the plan sheet, snap a photo, and assign it to the sub who owns it. They see it on their phone, mark it done with an "after" photo, and you've got a record instead of a "who said what" text thread.
What it costs (from fieldwire.com/pricing, checked Oct 21, 2026):
- Basic: $0 — up to 5 users and 100 plan sheets, with plan viewing, task management, checklists, and files and photos.
- Pro: $39/user/month, billed annually — adds reports and exports, sheet compare and project templates.
For a small remodel or service crew, the free plan is enough to run punch lists on your next job without paying anything.
Copy-paste workflow: 15-minute punch walk
- Upload the final floor plan PDF to a new Fieldwire project.
- Walk room by room. For each item, tap the spot on the plan, take a photo, and write one line: what's wrong + what "done" looks like.
- Assign each item to one person (never "the crew") with a due date.
- Before the client walkthrough, filter to open items and chase only those.
Bonus AI prompt (paste into ChatGPT or Claude with your rough walk notes):
Turn these site-walk notes into a punch list. One line per item: room, issue, trade responsible, and what "done" looks like. Group by trade. Flag anything that's a safety or code issue first. Notes: [paste notes]
